While breed-specific legislation is still in place and there are concerns about pit bulls, advocates say that the dogs‘ behavior can be influenced by responsible training and ownership. Megan described Beauty as a gentle dog with good training. She explained that Beauty was trained to all of the different ways dogs can be taught. She never jumped or barked.
Megan’s apartment complex does not allow pit bulls, even though Beauty is a model of good behavior. Megan’s foster status made it impossible to register Beauty for emotional support. Megan’s friends expressed their fear of Beauty because she is a mixed breed. This further complicated the situation.
Freyer stated, “I thought that I could conceal her to the people checking if we are complying with the rules. But my roommates didn’t approve.” The roommates were terrified because the pit bull was there.
Megan was “devastated” by this. Her roommates threatened to report Megan, so she had no other choice than to give Beauty back to Forsyth County’s animal shelter.
