SNL Trump Zelensky Cold Open Mike Myers Elon Musk Cameo

Saturday Night Live SNL‘s satirical take on the Oval Office gathering between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky was a hot topic online.

Mike Myers made a surprise appearance in the sketch as Elon Musk. He provided a humorous take on what was going on. It also satirized the idea of government efficiency with a reference to “Department of Government Efficient”.

The SNL Skit is Important

In reality, the meeting between Trump and Vance was reportedly characterized by heated discussions that attracted international criticism. There were concerns about the tone of this meeting and its potential consequences for U.S. assistance to Ukraine in fighting Russian aggression. SNL‘s skit captured the perceived tension and contentious tone of the meeting, amplifying public discourse surrounding the event.

The SNL Skit: Key Moments & Highlights

Bowen Yang portrayed JDVance. James Austin Johnson re-enacted his role as Donald Trump. Mikey Day portrayed Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump and Vance began the skit by berating Zelensky, who they believed had not shown enough gratitude to the United States for its assistance against Russian aggression. The scene highlighted the complex nature of foreign relations and aid distribution.

This skit poked fun of Zelensky’s clothing during his visit to the Oval Office, by referencing the comments made in the MAGA Journalist Brian Glenn’s boyfriend, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. Brian Glenn questioned Zelensky about why he wasn’t dressed up. The skit highlighted how leaders are scrutinized, including their clothing choices.

The Trump character in the sketch made a sarcastic comment, asking Zelensky whether he wanted him to show his love for Vladimir Putin or offer him a date with his wife. These lines highlight the show’s satirical treatment of sensitive geopolitical topics.

Vance’s character stressed the importance of showing gratitude and comically highlighted the dynamic between allies. He humorously remarked, “You haven’t said ‘thank you’ once in the past 15 seconds I’ve been yelling at you.”

Mike Myers, as Elon Musk in the sketch, entered with a chainsaw, questioning whether he could be president. This was a great example of SNL’s ability to blend political satire and pop culture characters.

SNL‘s sketch repeatedly cut off the Zelensky character—echoing real-life criticisms of the White House meeting and creating humor from a known point of contention.

The Vance character’s line, “Does the sign outside say ‘Ukraine House?’ No, it says ‘America House’,” was delivered to underscore a supposed America-first perspective.

Myers, a personification of Elon Musk’s eccentric personality, caused even more chaos by asking: “What do you want in my room? “I’m president now.” I’m kidding. Maybe I’m not …”.

Trump, the SNL host said: “I feel so relaxed with it all.” He delivered a comment with a sense of self-awareness.

Social Media: Public Reaction

Aaron Matchett (formerly Twitter), a X user, made the following comment: Zelensky was bad. JD, even worse. The Wonka performance was excellent. Mike Myers wasn’t great as Elon.” The opinions are varied about the portrayals of the actors.
