Usman Nurmagomedov, Bellator’s lightweight champion, responded to Conor McGregor over his recent outburst. This came after Nurmagomedov beat Paul Hughes during the PFL Champions Series in Dubai. Usman Nurmagomedov responded to McGregor’s recent remarks directed at the Nurmagomedovs, claiming that McGregor’s outburst was a result of his loss six years ago against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Following a five round fight that was hyped by Khabib, McGregor and Dagestan, Usman Nurmagomedov’s PFL match against Paul Hughes ended in mutual respect. Conor McGregor was reportedly enraged by this show of sportsmanship and posted a series on social media aimed at Hughes as well as the Nurmagomedov extended family. In an interview, McGregor was asked about his conduct. MMA FightingUsman Nurmagomedov thinks the problem is McGregor’s unwillingness to accept his loss against Khabib.
“Maybe because Khabib kicked his ass!” Usman suggested that McGregor’s loss is still haunting him. He wants to rematch but has to deal with it for the rest of his life and that of his children.
Usman painted a vivid picture of McGregor’s future. “When his kids will grow up, when his kids are 18, or 12, people will say ‘Hey, your father was trying to do some crazy stuff, but some guy from the mountains of Dagestan came to America and kicked your father’s ass.’ That’s it. This is why he has trouble sleeping. Bellator Champion Conor McGregor is motivated to rant on social media by his historical defeat, according to the Bellator Champion.
Conor McGregor’s broken leg from his UFC-264 loss to Dustin Pourier in 2021 has left him unable to fight Khabib again. McGregor feels frustrated because he hasn’t been able to get back at Khabib for his UFC 229 defeat in October 2018. Khabib had dominated McGregor both on his hands and feet.
Nurmagomedov stressed that “he has to pass and live with it.” All his family and his legacy revolve around his defeat. Khabib lost the fight when he was supposed to win. It didn’t. Khabib broke his nose, his team, and everything he worked for.”
Usman Nurmagomedov, in addition to addressing McGregor’s actions spoke of his dedication to be a role model. He recognized the responsibility of his position.
He told him: “McGregor’s reaction was insane.” MMA Junkie. Paul is an honest guy. “Paul is a good guy.” He’s an excellent guy. This is an honest time, brother. You have to set a good example because everybody is on their phones right now.”
He brought up the impact of social media, and how important it is for athletes to set a positive example. The people are always on their phones and in the media. They’re constantly watching. If you set a bad example it is very detrimental. It’s important to remember that your brother is watching. “You have to set a good model.”
Usman Nurmagomedov finished by saying “I try to follow these laws.” It’s a fact that I am not a nice guy. I am not 100 per cent a good person. I’m a little less kind than I used to be, and I’m a bit more humble. This I am aware of. It’s not that I don’t know. It is my duty to do so. I need to try. Some of my errors I need to correct. Because the future generation is watching, I must be. “They come and they take pictures, they give me good wishes, so you need to set a good example.” Conor McGregor may be stepping down from his role as a public face, but the young Bellator Champion is taking a more mature approach.
