The Katharine will be selling eight homes, one of which is an exclusive penthouse, starting this spring. Prices will start at around $9.5 million. Berkus stated that he wanted to design residences within a neighborhood which has been an inspiration throughout his career.

The Katharine House: Historical Importance
The Katharine House, originally built in 1930 by Benjamin Wistar Morris. He is known for designing iconic buildings such as Union League Club or the Cunard Building. It was an innovative project: The Katharine House provided affordable, safe housing to single women in New York City who were pursuing employment and education opportunities. It had communal living areas on lower levels for entertainment, and private apartments on upper floors.

The Katharine is a monument to the preservation of architecture, having been restored with meticulous care and turned into luxury condominiums. Renovations honor the rich history of this building while offering modern comforts and styles.
Nate Berkus stated that BKSK Architects had done a remarkable job in restoring to the original glory of the facade and architecture. Although the bay windows of old are gone, the team has thoughtfully created new ones to honor the original and add the charm of each neighborhood home.
Berkus was inspired by classic prewar residences and transformed timeless elements into a contemporary style. “We reinterpreted those timeless elements through a more modern lens – including details like custom millwork and vintage Italian lighting. “The result is a series of stately homes with a livable feel,” said he.

Greenwich Village luxury residences
The Katharine has eight full-floor residences, each with a spacious living area framed by its original brick facade and bay windows, which are hallmarks of pre-war architectural style. Berkus said that these homes were designed to meet the lifestyle needs of modern New Yorkers.
Some residences feature private terraces with views over the cityscape, gardens and the ocean. They also have elevators that are keyed to open directly into their homes. Berkus has integrated high-end elements into each residence, such as stone flooring, marble fireplaces and carefully crafted millwork.

“We designed the interiors to feel stately and classic…an elegant refuge that sophisticated New Yorkers would instinctively appreciate,” said Berkus. The Village is a dynamic place to live and a great place to raise your family. The building has a rich history, and we wanted to create something both new and surprising.
Berkus worked closely with the team to create spacious kitchens and living rooms that were both beautiful and functional.
The Katharine’s residences are designed with a focus on functionality and craftsmanship. Custom details like large windows that face south fill homes with natural lighting. The Katharine homes are characterized by unique flooring patterns in stone and millwork.
The Katharine offers a 24 hour attended lobby and a rooftop terrace with a lush landscape. The Katharine offers residents a variety of luxurious features, including an on-site fitness studio, yoga terrace and storage space.
