“Daredevil” (Netflix/Disney+)

Don’t bother with the Ben Affleck 2003 film. Instead, watch the three-season critically acclaimed superhero crime drama which originated on Netflix. It is available now on Disney+. The series is anchored by Charlie Cox’s captivating performance as Matt Murdock/Daredevil. It chronicles Matt’s journey, from a boy who lost his vision in an accident to gaining extraordinary enhanced senses.

Matt is trained by Stick, a stern lawyer who fights injustices both in court and on the street. Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is his primary enemy. He’s an evil and powerful figure who has a great influence on Daredevil’s life.

It is important that you don’t miss seasons two and three. The Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal in season two, is the definitive MCU portrayal of Frank Castle. His brutal methods and tragic history are in stark contrast with Daredevil’s moral code. Daredevil’s final season will see him facing Benjamin Poindexter or Bullseye. A deadly marksman, Bullseye has an unstable mind. Bullseye and the Punisher have complex relationships with Kingpin, which set up their appearances in Daredevil: Born Again.

“The Defenders” (Netflix/Disney+)

The Defenders miniseries is a controversial series, but it’s a vital bridge that connects seasons 2 and 3 of “Daredevil”, with an ending that leaves Matt Murdock on a cliffhanger.

The Defenders is Marvel’s Netflix version of “The Avengers”. It brings Daredevil and Jessica Jones together with Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones to face a common enemy. The series, while it did not receive the same level of acclaim that its film counterpart received, provides a context to understand Daredevil and his emotional state in future narratives.
Sigourney weaver gives a powerful performance as Alexandra Reid. You can get through this film if you focus on the scenes with her and the plot development.

“The Punisher” (Netflix/Disney+)

Although it has not been confirmed that the “Punisher” plot will have a direct impact on “Daredevil: Born Again,” viewing it for an in-depth understanding of Frank Castle’s motivations and character is recommended.

The Punisher is an incredible, unflinching portrayal of the iconic vigilante. Jon Bernthal delivers a compelling performance that shows a man driven to vengeance by his grief. Even audiences not invested in Marvel’s interconnected universe will appreciate this series.

Skippable content

To save time, it’s not necessary to understand “Daredevil – Born Again” if Daredevil has appeared in some other MCU films. Charlie Cox’s cameo appearance in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, while entertaining, doesn’t have a significant impact on the story of “Born Again”.

Daredevil and Jennifer Walters’ brief romance in “She Hulk: Attorney at Law”, which Daredevil experienced with Walters, is not expected to play a major role in the new show. Although “Echo”, “Hawkeye”, and other films are entertaining in their own rights, “Daredevil: Born Again” does not require them to be watched.
