Vivek Ramaswamy Ohio Polls: Analyzing His Chances

Vivek R. Ramaswamy, former Republican Presidential candidate and biotech entrepreneur has declared his candidacy in 2026 Ohio Governoral elections. According to early polls, he’s currently leading the Republican Primary.

Ramaswamy: The Meaning of His Entry

Ramaswamy announced his resignation as co-leader of DOGE on Monday. Ramaswamy enters an intensely competitive and crowded GOP primary, where he is vying for the position of succeeding incumbent Republican Governor Mike DeWine. DeWine has served as a center-right politician since his early twenties, but he’s now term limited at age 78.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost launched his campaign in early January. It is expected that Yost will be Ramaswamy’s main challenger to the Republican nomination. Heather Hill is a Black Appalachian entrepreneur who focuses on the economic revitalization in her region. Jeremiah Workman a retired U.S. marine staff sergeant, from Union County, emphasizes veteran support and local values. Local sources report that Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel – a well-known former college football head coach – is also considering running for the Republican nomination.

Jon Husted’s appointment in January to the vacated Senate Seat of Vice President JDVance changed the dynamics.

Amy Acton is the Democratic candidate. She is the former director of state health who was responsible for Ohio’s initial response to the COVID-19 epidemic and has a reputation as a public health expert.

The candidates will compete in a swing state, which was considered to be a crucial one in previous election cycles. Trump has won the state in each of the three last presidential elections by major margins. Republican Party holds all statewide executive offices, has a majority at the Ohio Supreme Court and controls both chambers of the legislature in Ohio.

Analysis of Current Polling Data

Ramaswamy has not been the subject of any new polls since he officially began his campaign. However, previous surveys have shown that he’s the front-runner for Ohio Governor. Note that these polls took place before important developments like specific endorsements and changes to candidate platforms.

National Public Affairs conducted a poll between 2 February and 5 of 602 Republican primary voters. Ramaswamy had a large lead, receiving 46 percent in support, as opposed to Yost’s 18%. A significant portion (34%) of the voters remained undecided.

In this poll funded by Yost, we also looked at the effects of providing additional information to voters about candidates. In a scenario where respondents were given more comprehensive background information – an “informed ballot” – Yost’s support increased to 30 percent, while Ramaswamy’s decreased slightly to 31 percent, leaving 36 percent undecided. According to the poll, a hypothetical Donald Trump’s endorsement would boost Yost’s popularity and could give him a lead of up to 20 points. It’s important to remember that Trump endorsed Ramaswamy in a Truth Social post, calling him “something special.”

The National Public Affairs Poll had an error margin of +/- 4%, showing a level of uncertainty with the exact numbers.

WPA Intelligence also conducted another poll from January 28 to 30, with 600 Republican primary voters. Ramaswamy was shown as having a significant lead. He received 57 percent support, while Yost only got 26 percent. WPA Intelligence also found that Ramaswamy was a clear leader among those who are familiar with Yost and him. Yost received only 20 percent of support, while Ramaswamy garnered 72 percent. The analysis also indicated that Ramaswamy could gain an extra 10 points if Trump endorses him, thus solidifying Ramaswamy’s position as the most likely nominee. Fabrizio, Lee & Associates, Trump’s personal pollsters, published a report on the 28th of January revealing that Ramaswamy received over 52 percent in support by Republican primary candidates, compared to Yost’s only 18 percent. Ramaswamy now has a 34 point lead over Ohio’s Attorney General. The analysis took into account endorsements, favorability scores and other factors.

Fabrizio, Lee & Associates also noted that Ramaswamy was rated 65 percent favorably compared to a rating of 9 percent unfavorably, exceeding Yost’s rating of 51 percent favorably among Ohio Republican Primary voters. The advantage of voter perception may prove to be significant for the primary.

Fabrizio, Lee & Associates emphasized in their memo the importance of Trump’s and Vance’s high popularity within the state. America First’s Ramaswamy, who is a frontrunner in the GOP race, has a large electorate that loves President Trump and Vice president Vance.

Fabrizio, Lee & Associates surveyed a total of 600 voters likely to vote between January 26 and 27, 2025, with a margin error of +/-4 percent.

Ohio voters will choose a new Governor in 2026. Ramaswamy will focus on mobilizing conservatives voters in the run-up to election. He’ll also secure crucial endorsements and outline his state policy platform.
