George Clooney Recalls How Amal Clooney‘s Age Difference Initially Hampered Him
George Clooney has recently spoken out on his 17-year gap in age with Amal Clooney. She is a well respected lawyer and human rights activist. In a candid interview with the *New York Times* published on Thursday, February 20, 2025, the 63-year-old shared his initial concerns and how their relationship has evolved over time.
George Clooney revealed that he was worried about the age gap when describing their first encounter at the home of Amal Alamuddin, then 47 years old, in his Lake Como residence.

Amal then walked into the room. I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ “I didn’t believe I had much of a shot with her, because she was older than me by 17 years and seemed to be in a good place,” confessed the man.
George Clooney has also highlighted that marrying Amal late in life actually strengthens their relationship. George Clooney believes that his older age brought an easygoingness into the relationship. This allowed them to overcome challenges more easily and with less friction.
Our house was renovated. Amal would go, ‘I want to paint this wall yellow.’ Well, if I was 27 years old and doing construction work, I would’ve been like, ‘Well, that’s a stupid color,'” George shared. “But the truth of the matter is that at 60, you just go, ‘OK.’ Many things would cause friction, but they don’t.

The *Ocean’s Eleven* star emphasized the importance of cherishing their time together, particularly focusing on the coming decades.
“I told Amal, ‘We have to focus on the next 20, 25 years of making sure that we’re jamming in everything we can,'” he said. “Not just work, because no one at the end of their life goes, ‘God, I wish I worked more.'”
In 2017, the couple welcomed their twins Alexander Clooney, and Ella Clooney. They were married in Italy, where they developed a romance, in 2014. George revealed that fatherhood was not initially in his plans until he met Amal.
“I was not really looking to become a parent.” He admitted that he fell in love with Amal after meeting her. After that everything just made sense. George Clooney’s story, which includes their early hesitations because of the age difference, and then their commitment to a successful life together continues to inspire many.
