Donald Trump Approval Rating Trends

The favorability rating of President Donald Trump has declined after a surge following his return to White House in a second term. This is according to an analysis by multiple polling agencies. Public opinion has shifted in response to a number of policy proposals and changes.

Donald Trump has seen his favorability ratings decline as criticism of several important policy areas increases. The ongoing attempts by his administration to streamline the federal workforce have resulted in layoffs of federal employees. Also, controversial statements about the Gaza Strip’s future, such as the possibility of an American-led resettlement for Palestinians who are displaced, during the process of rebuilding, has also been made. The public’s perception and the media’s increased scrutiny of his leadership are a result.

As per <a rel="noopener nofollow" href="https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/favorability/donald-trump/” target=”_blank” class=”multivariate”> 538’s live average trackerDonald Trump has a current favorable rating of 46,6 percent. Meanwhile, 48 percent of the respondents have a negative opinion, giving a net-unfavorable score of +1.4. The marginally unfavorable score indicates that the public is divided.

This net unfavorable score is slightly lower than the unfavorable +1.6 rating that was recorded on the 20th of January, which marked his return to the White House as President for the second time. It appears that public opinion began on an upward trend, but then declined.

Trump’s favorable rating improved after he returned to the United States. The score peaked from February 3rd through 9th, with a positive net of 0.6 percent points.

There are similar trends in RealClearPolitics’ average tracker. The polling averages are composite indexes that combine data from multiple datasets and surveys.

RealClearPolitics’ net score for January 20th was -0.2 points (48.1% unfavorable against 47.9% favorable). These initial perceptions are remarkably divided.

On February 2nd however, Trump’s net rating increased by +1.2 percentage point favorable, which shows a period when public opinion was more positive. On February 18, the score had reverted to a negative, with 48.5% expressing an unfavorable view, compared to 47.9% expressing favourable views.

Meanwhile, 46 percent of Americans view him favorably, giving a score of net unfavorability of -6 points. In this survey, the unfavorable feelings are more pronounced than in other tracks.

The margin of error for this particular YouGov study, which was conducted from February 9th to 11th, amongst 1,595 adults, is +/- 3,4 percentage points. It is important to understand the statistical context of results.

Morning Consult conducted an independent poll between the 7th and 9th of February, which found Trump to be 47 percent in favor versus 50 per cent unfavorable. This survey confirms that a slightly higher percentage of registered voters have a negative view.

Cameron Easley was the head of U.S. Morning Consult’s Political Analyst, Cameron Easley, reviewed poll results for the 10th of February, noting that: The president’s net favorable rating is now in negative territory. According to polling, voters have now a three-point advantage in holding a negative view of Donald Trump. The numbers are the lowest since November and demonstrably lower than the eight-year period prior.

What happens next?

Donald Trump’s future favorability is uncertain and depends on a variety of factors, such as policy decisions, events in politics, media coverage and changing public sentiment. Trump will have to prove that he is able to address public concerns, increase his support among different groups and change the trajectory of the public’s opinion as his second-term progresses.
