Sandbox Surprise: Hidden Treasure Found Underneath

After discovering a nest of baby unidentified animals hidden beneath the sand, a homeowner went viral for her routine sandbox clean-up. TikTok’s video by @kris10nicole2318 quickly attracted over 4.6M views, as users shared their thoughts about the mystery creatures.

Many species that are commonly found in yards and gardens produce large litters. Pet MD reports that domestic cats have an average of four to six kittens in a litter. In a litter of rats, there can be up to 12 babies, and rabbits have as many, even reaching 14 at times.

TikTok’s creator speculated on her own in the comments: “I had been thinking bunnies or mice, but I think mice because they have tails.” “They must have been just born.” She prompted a flood of replies from users who were eager to provide their own identification.

The suggestions ranged from bunnies, squirrels and even less desirable possibilities such as rodents. One user, @rachel_petunia_coop, inquired, “Baby bunnies? Or squirrels?” Heather, a commenter from another blog post, said: “Squirrels build nests just like that.”

Pam Ella, on the other hand, cautioned: “They might be rats. You should know what you are saving before doing so. Don’t let a rat problem get out of hand. Or mice.” Furrell had a different opinion, stating that “Rabbits are most likely.” Just a few days ago, I had babies who looked exactly like these. Vicky said, “I may be 100 percent wrong but I think it’s a baby mouse.” When we had mice, the babies looked exactly like these.

Many people expressed concern and hope for the well-being of the animals. Mallarie told the TikToker “put back the sandbox so they’re protected, and then check them again. Hopefully the mother will return for them.”

T Evans echoed this sentiment and asked: “Is an update available?” Was mum back to look after them? Sometimes, if nests are disturbed and mum does not return to the nests afterward, they might need assistance.” It’s a good example of the balance needed between the human need for curiosity and our responsibility to protect wildlife. It’s evident that viewers were intrigued by the discovery, whether it was baby gray squirrels or mice. They also expressed concern about newborn animals.
