Family Feud: Weinstein’s Lawsuit Against His Brother Explained

Harvey Weinstein is currently in prison and has filed a lawsuit against Bob Weinstein and David Glasser. This was reported by TMZ. Harvey claims he was duped into signing a $45 million loan, which he says benefited Bob Weinstein, Glasser and others, but left Harvey liable for the full amount.

Imran Ansari is Harvey Weinstein’s attorney. He released a statement that was obtained by The Associated PressThe Weinstein Company was saved by a $45 million loan obtained under the false pretense that Harvey Weinstein had been deceived.

The statement continues, alleging that “While Harvey personally guaranteed the loan, others within The Weinstein Company enriched themselves and strategically undermined him, leaving him ‘holding the bag’ of debt while ‘lining their pockets’ when the company was in crisis.” The lawsuit is meant to show that Bob Weinstein, along with others, orchestrated a scheme to seize control of The Weinstein Company on Harvey’s behalf. The Weinstein Company declared bankruptcy in 2018 despite this alleged scheme.

According to Associated Press’ lawsuit, “As a consequence of these actions the Companies have lost, at least, 12 million dollars in cash, which they should have used to repay the AI International Loan.” The lawsuit states that “this mismanagement caused the Companies to be unable of satisfying their financial obligations resulting in bankruptcy and placing Weinstein in substantial financial risk.”

Bob Weinstein’s lawyer refuted this claim, telling AP that “the allegations are completely without merit.” The complex story of Harvey Weinstein’s fall and The Weinstein Company is further complicated by the legal fight.
